Org Charts in ChangePlan
Organizational charts (org charts) are a crucial tool for visualizing the structure and hierarchy of an organization. In ChangePlan, org charts play a vital role in linking teams, groups, and individuals to change initiatives, enabling efficient management and planning. This guide explains how ChangePlan accommodates org charts, how to navigate them, and how they integrate into your change management workflow.
What are Org Charts?
Org charts are typically arranged in a hierarchical structure, representing relationships and authority levels within an organization. The highest authority is displayed at the top, with progressively lower levels beneath.

In ChangePlan:
- Org charts can accommodate up to 10 levels, but we recommend limiting to 5-6 levels for simplicity and clarity.
- Org charts are displayed in a table format with expandable and collapsible rows, making navigation user-friendly.

How ChangePlan Displays Org Charts
ChangePlan optimizes org charts for ease of use by displaying them as a table with expandable/collapsible rows. This format enables users to view hierarchical levels clearly and interact with the data intuitively.
- Parent Groups: Represent top-level categories or departments.
- Child Groups: Sub-groups nested under parent groups, representing more specific divisions.

Navigating Org Charts in ChangePlan
- Expand/Collapse Groups
- Use the arrows next to parent groups to expand and view child groups.
- Collapsed rows hide child groups, making it easier to focus on high-level views.

Here’s how it looks in ChangePlan:
- Level 1 Groups: Represent top-level divisions.

- Level 2 Groups: Click the arrow next to a Level 1 group to reveal its child groups.

- Level 3 Groups: Continue expanding rows to drill down into deeper levels.

Org Chart Selection Logic:
- Smarter Group Selections
- Parent Groups: Selecting a parent group automatically includes all its child groups.
- Partial Selections: A dash
[-]
indicates some, but not all, child groups are selected.
- Individual Row Logic
- Individuals linked to a parent group are displayed in separate rows.
- Users can:
- Select specific individuals without including parent or child groups.
- Add all child groups without automatically including individuals in the parent group.
- Improved Interface
- Single-Click Actions: Select or deselect groups and individuals with ease.
- Accordion Rows: Expand or collapse groups for better navigation.
- Visual Feedback: Ticks and dashes instantly show selection status.
