New Impact Functionality: Custom Date Ranges + Expandable Org Group Views
ChangePlan has released two impactful enhancements to the Impacts feature—designed to give users greater flexibility and clarity when visualizing and reporting change impacts across the organization.
Published on March 27, 20251. Choose When Impacts Appear on the Timeline
Change delivery is rarely straightforward, and often, as you peel back the layers and start the conversations it becomes even more complex.
We LOVE getting your feedback because it gives us the opportunity to continually improve our platform to help you delivery brilliant change management.
We’ve upgraded the way you record change impacts, giving you the opportunity to record differing impacts at different times in the project.
Until now, our All Initiatives Change Impact Heatmap has displayed impacts for each initiative in the time period of the go-live date for each initiative:

But... you've told us that not all impacts are experienced at go live by change recipients - and now your reporting can reflect that.
So you can now set when impacts will appear on the All Initiatives Change Impact heatmap report:

You can now optionally choose when an impact will be shown on the heatmap timeline by selecting 'CHOOSE DATES' in the Impacts pop-up and defining start and end dates:

PLEASE NOTE:
- This feature is live in our U.S. server and will be available in Australia & all other regions on Monday 1st April.
- We are currently upgrading the XLS export/import feature to support the additional start and end date fields for each impact to enable you to bulk edit impacts by exporting and re-importing. This functionality is due by the 10th of April 2025.
Here’s a few examples of where you might use this:
- Projects with multiple phases: Perhaps the initial discovery phase of your project is intrusive, then the rest happens behind the scenes, or will you be drip feeding communications and ramp up for training.
- Projects with multiple deployments / go-lives
- Phased rollouts or overlapping changes
Previously, all impacts defaulted to the initiative's Go Live date. With this new feature, you can now specify a start and end date for each impact, allowing for greater flexibility in reporting and alignment with phased rollouts.

🔧 How to Use It
- When creating or editing an impact, toggle between:
- At Go Live (default)
- Choose Dates (new)

- Enter the start and end dates for the impact.

Use Cases:
- Show phased rollouts or milestone-based change.
- Represent multiple go-lives within a single initiative.
- 🔎 How this affects Change Impacts Reporting:
- Before: The Change Impacts heatmap assigned color coding (Red/Orange/Green) to the initiative go-live date only, even if an impact started earlier or later.
- Now: Color indicators on the Change Impacts heatmap reflect the actual start and end date range of each impact, giving a more accurate picture of when and where change is felt.
2. Expandable Org Group Views in Impacts Heatmap
You can now expand or collapse child org groups in the Change Impacts heatmap.
🔍 Why It Matters
Previously, users could only view all Level 2 groups across all Level 1 groups at once, making the view overwhelming. Now, you can drill down into specific branches of the org chart, one group at a time.
Previously:

📊 Now:

- Accessible from All Initiatives View > Reports > Change Impacts
- Expand only what you need; collapse the rest for a cleaner view.
Before vs. After
View | Before | Now |
Org chart drill-down | All child groups were shown at once across all parents | Only expanded groups are visible, making reports clearer and easier to navigate |
This makes it much easier to:
- Focus on the most relevant audiences.
- Reduce noise in large, complex org charts.
- Present change impact reports in a more streamlined, leader-friendly view.
Summary of Benefits
Improvement | Value |
Custom Impact Date Ranges | Accurately represent phased rollouts or multiple go-lives. |
Expand/Collapse Group Views | Cleaner, more flexible heatmap reporting by org group. |
These enhancements are part of our continued effort to make ChangePlan more intuitive and powerful for change managers, project leads, and enterprise teams.
